How to convert your text
- Enter the text to convert. Use a number, a short phrase, or a formula. Keep ordinary text outside the input when you do not want it converted.
- Choose a position. Superscript raises supported characters; Subscript lowers them. Review the preview for characters that stay unchanged.
- Copy and paste. Copy the text and check it in your destination. Changing the mode always starts from your original input.
Small text you can copy
Superscript
Hello 123 → ᴴᵉˡˡᵒ ¹²³
For an exponent or footnote number, convert just the number: 2 becomes ². This tool does not interpret caret notation such as x^2.
Subscript
H2O → H₂O
Digits change while unsupported capital letters stay in place. A lowercase x has a supported subscript form, ₓ, so the tool would convert it too.
Supported characters and exact text
Both modes support the digits 0 to 9, plus, minus, equals, and parentheses. Superscript also supports selected uppercase and lowercase letters; Subscript supports a smaller set of lowercase letters. The lowercase q, for example, is left unchanged by this tool.
The keyboard hyphen-minus (-) and mathematical minus (−) both convert to the script minus sign. Other punctuation is preserved. Accented letters and combining marks are not normalized, stripped, or approximated. Spaces and line breaks are retained.
Letter output uses Unicode modifier and subscript letters, whose original uses include phonetic notation. This is a character substitution tool, not a full alphabet or font. Character information is checked against the Unicode Character Database and the Superscripts and Subscripts chart.
Frequently asked questions
Does every letter have a supported superscript or subscript?
No. This tool uses a selected set of Unicode digits, signs, and modifier letters. It keeps unsupported characters unchanged and reports when they occur. It does not replace missing letters with similar-looking characters or silently change uppercase to lowercase.
Can I make a superscript number or a chemical formula?
Yes. Enter 2 in Superscript mode to copy ², or enter H2O in Subscript mode to copy H₂O. The tool converts every supported character in your input; it does not parse formulas or decide which parts belong above or below the line.
What happens to accents, emoji, and text already converted?
Unsupported text is kept as entered, including emoji and accented letters. A base letter with combining marks is kept together. Supported output characters already in the selected style remain unchanged. Switching modes always regenerates from your original input.
Does copying preserve the font or position in every app?
No. The result contains Unicode characters rather than HTML, a font, or rich-text formatting. Your destination controls the appearance. For formatted website content, use sup or sub elements when that better matches your task.
Is the text stored or sent anywhere?
No. Input and output stay in the current browser tab without browser storage or server submission. Custom analytics record only tool activity and copy outcomes, never the text you enter.
